Hello!
I’m Clare Jones, a director and camera operator specialising in wildlife and adventure docs. Driven by a strong interest to protect the natural world, I’ve spent the past ten years working on some of TV’s most popular natural history programmes for the BBC Natural History Unit, SKY, National Geographic, Channel 4 and more. Collaborating with scientists and researchers worldwide, I’ve set up complex international shoots, directed numerous crews in the field, and used an array of the latest camera technologies to tell innovative stories about our natural world, creating strong character-led stories that educate, entertain and inspire.
Today, I’m inspired to tell stories that empower audiences through emotionally driven narratives. As well as working across high-end wildlife productions, I make my own adventure documentaries, blending high-production value filming techniques with the art of story-telling, showcasing real human experiences in the great outdoors.
Some of the kit I shoot on regularly include REDs, Sony and Phantom high-speed cameras, as well as a variety of jibs, gimbals and drones. I’ve worked in all sorts of environments from -30C in the arctic to +42C in the Sahara, filming a variety of subjects from tiny Japanese flying squirrels to African elephants using long lens, high-speed, thermal and macro camera rigs. I’ve also got lots of experience directing and filming people, including presenter-led pieces and interviews involving lighting and sound recording.
In my own time I’m usually either climbing or dreaming about climbing somewhere!
